Operation Safe Driver Week to Kick Off July 9

Law enforcement officials will target speeding and other unsafe driving behaviors July 9-15 during the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual Operation Safe Driver Week.

Both commercial and passenger vehicles will be in the spotlight as law enforcement officials in the United States, Canada, and Mexico look for drivers who are distracted behind the wheel, following too closely, making improper lane changes, failing to use a seat belt, and driving while impaired.

“This weeklong driver safety traffic enforcement and awareness campaign aim to identify unsafe drivers, deter dangerous driving behaviors and prompt positive driving habits through officer interactions with drivers,” CVSA says. “Data shows that traffic stops and interactions with law enforcement help reduce problematic driving behaviors.”

CVSA is offering free postcards intended to educate drivers and promote awareness of Operation Safe Driver Week. Additional resources include a video, social media graphics, and posters. The resources are available in English, French, and Spanish.

During last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement officials issued 7,096 citations and 4,722 warnings for speeding to passenger-vehicle drivers. Truck and bus drivers received 1,490 citations and 2,577 warnings.
